Retin A VS. Retinol
RETIN A is retinoic acid (Tretinoin). Incidentally also a form of Vitamin A (like Retinol), Retin A is stronger and has been consistently prescribed by doctors over the years for acne. Today, doctors have started to take advantage of its anti-aging qualities and have begun prescribing it more to help reduce lines and wrinkles. In addition to its acne-fighting and anti-aging qualities, Retin A helps to lighten brown spots. Being that it is more potent than Retinol and can often cause quite a bit of irritation, inflammation, and redness – please keep in mind that Retin A is NOT available over the counter – because of this, I prefer using Retinol as it is not nearly as inflammatory to the skin. Unlike Retin A, Retinol does not “dump a load” of acid, all at once, onto your epidermis (the outermost layer of skin). Therefore, many clients of mine have a shared preference for using Retinol – it is more forgiving, yet still yields fantastic results for fine lines and wrinkles, brown spots, and overall smoother tighter skin! I often explain it this way: Retin A dumps a load of tretinoin(the active acid) all at once onto your epidermis while Retinol is like a time-released vitamin. Retinol takes more time to get converted into retinoic acid, at which point it gets absorbed by the skin cell receptors as needed. Remember… inflammation is the cause of all diseases ie; cancer, acne, and most autoimmune diseases. Inflammation is NOT a good thing for your body so why put Retin A on your skin knowing it causes inflammation? Over the years I have researched, what I feel to be, the absolute best Vitamin A retinol serums.
Please check out these products by Dermodality – VITAMIN A INTENSE and the RETINOL MIXER (a more potent form of retinol). My clients saw results after being on the VITAMIN A INTENSE for 2 or 3 months.
