Frequently Asked Questions
What are the most important anti-aging products?
In my opinion,
1:A good cleanser geared towards your skin type,
2: A Vitamin C serum (AM)
3: A pure hyaluronic acid serum (see my article under tips and advice on what is hyaluronic acid?
4: A Physical sunscreen containing at least 9% micronized Zinc. See my Clear Choice Sport Shield SPF
5: A medical grade Retinol (see my Vitamin A Intense/Retinol mixer for PM use.
6: A good exfoliator to use 3-4 times a week. I love The papaya Algae Enzyme Polish by Rena Levi.
Should I wear sunscreen every day?
Absolutely, even when you are not outdoors. UV radiation comes from lighting inside as well. Reapply when doing outdoorsy tasks every 80 mins, especially when sweating or swimming. Daily use of a good physical SPF will protect the skin against cancers as well as brown spots, and lines and wrinkles! Especially important if you suffer from Rosacea!
Should I use eye cream?
Eye Cream is an optional add-on to your routine but if you can afford it, I feel it is very important. The Eye area often sees aging first as it is an area with lots of movement (squinting, etc) The skin around the eyes doesn’t produce as much oil so it need a special product to keep it hydrated. If you have puffiness or dark circles then the Dermodality Restore Eye Cream addresses this like no other eye product I have ever used!
What products are useful for sensitive skin?
With sensitive skin you want to choose products that do not have irritating ingredients. Sensitive skin types should avoid: Fragrance, Alcohol, Synthetic Ingredients such as: parabens, Phthalates, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS),micro plastics, and Mineral oil (very pore clogging.)
Should I remove my makeup before going to bed?
Yes! Especially if you suffer from acne. Makeup clogs your pores as it has been sitting on your skin all day.
When should I begin using anti-aging products?
I have good and bad news.
Ok, the bad news first: Collagen and elastin production begins to slow in our mid twenties! (These are the two main fibers that are essential for bouncy, juicy, plump, younger looking skin. With each year, our skin becomes more fragile, thinner and more prone to wrinkles and also red broken capillaries. So that is why I recommend that gals get started on a good skin program earlier rather than later to PREVENT a lot of aging skin woes.
Now the good news. Medical strength skin products like the ones I sell on my site really do work! Vitamin C is a fabulous antioxidant and VitaminA (retinol) keeps the skin cells turning over and helps to keep skin thick and moist. It also prevents against early stage cancer. So Get your glow on gals. Don’t wait for the damage to become irreversible.
What should I do about dark/brown spots?
The best preventative for dark spots is Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen!! My bestseller by far, is the ClearChoice Sportshield spf 45! Using a gentle exfoliator several times a week to help lift off and lighten new hyperpigmentation is helpful also. My Rena Levi Papaya algae Enzyme and also her Amazing Scrub both do a great job with lightening brown spots. The Dermodality Vitamin C Intense serum and also The Dermodality HQ lightener are both wonderful for lightening and brightening.
How can I get rid of my acne?
Acne is one of the toughest conditions to treat and heal. Often, less is more! I recommend using a gentle cleanser first to help lessen some of the redness and inflammation, Once you have calmed down the inflammation, then You could switch to a cleanser with some salicylic acid. I have great results with the Mandelic Green Tea Cleanser from Dermodality, The M Corrective serum alone or combined with The Vitamin C Intense in the daytime, and at night. The Vitamin A Intense used every other night. Do not scrub your face harshly as it will spread the acne bacteria making it worse. Do not use a cleanser that will overly dry out your skin as the skin will then try to balance itself and produce even more oil.
What happens if I over-exfoliate my skin?
It actually makes acne worse by spreading the bacteria and increasing inflammation. In addition, on mature skin, harsh exfoliating can cause broken capillaries and redness. Remember, as we age, our skin becomes less resilient and thinner; so be gentle with it! Love it, don’t scrub it!
How do I improve my fine lines and wrinkles?
My advice is to NEVER smile or laugh again or make any exaggerated facial expressions! Ok I am just kidding (kind of.) Where we have the most movement on our face is where we will wrinkle the most.
Keep it simple. Using a good cleanser, Vitamin C serum, hyaluronic acid with SPF in the daytime and at night are a great way to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. The most important part is using a retinol serum in the evening. Dermodality’s Vitamin A Intense or the Retinol Mixer (recommended for those who have used the Vitamin A Intense for at least 3-4 months without irritation.) If you suffer from puffiness in the eye area or dark circles, then add in The Dermodality Restore Eye Cream.
